Welcome to Lisa's Sweet Tooth!

Hi! My name is Lisa (duh), and I am a 29 year old mom of three wonderful gifts from God ;) I have loved cakes, candy, chocolates and sweets since I was a little girl. I have taken up a serious interest in baking cakes for the last year. I always did little rinky dink cakes here and there, but nothing I even spent a lot of time on to make them "pop". Til February of 2010. I tried my hand at my very first cake, which happened to be for My best friend's son's 5th birthday party. I was so nervous, because it was a big party, and I didn't know exactly how it would turn out. Here's what happened:

I was actually pretty proud of myself by this cake. I had put two cakes together, side by side, hence the dips toward the top and bottom middle, lol. And that was before I knew there were cake pans this big, so I didn't have to combine two cakes =) So, I went out and bought myself a Wilton cake pan, that is a 15x18 I believe. The next cake I made was for the superbowl. I thought this one turned out pretty good as well, although I learned from this cake that it takes a steady hand and patience to make straight lines! What do you think?

My kids saw what a great job I was doing, and with their dad's birthday coming around the corner, they asked me to make him one. So, I did. I tinted the icing green, and since his birthday is on St. Patty's day, the design worked well!

The boys' were so happy that I made their dad this cake and their faces lit up when I brought it to grandma and grandpa's house! I ended up making one for my oldest son, Nik for his 8th birthday. He lives and breathes WWE, so naturally, that was the cake he picked. I was so nervouse to make it, and I had so many ideas for it too. I originally wanted to make an entire wrestling ring, but I was a little short on time, so this is what he got instead:

Next up? My second son, Eric, had his 6th birthday. He was so easy to make a cake for, I already knew exactly what to make. Sponge Bob Square Pants. The only problem? I am FAR from the greatest sketch artist ever. I can't even draw a stick figure without it looking distorted! But, I managed. I went on my laptop, looked up a picture of him, and copied it line by line with my buttercream. This one turned out well, I think, too, for my first spongebob cake!

Now, I'll admit, I really messed up on Patricks mouth, Sponge Bob's eyes, and I really didn't plan enough space for the writing, but hey; I think it at least looks like the real characters! LOL! Morgan's birthday, my daughter, was about 2 weeks after Eric's and of course, she HAD to have a princess cake. Now, at this point, I thought I was getting to be pretty good at this cake decorating thing. So, I decided to step it up a nothc. A castle she wants? A castle she gets! This baby was 3 whole layers tall, and the plastic kit, I bought from a local grocery store. I had so much fun with this one, and it really brought out my creativity! And she was in LOVE.

I only wish I had a better picture of it! I think I either forgot to get pictures, or I misplaced them, but I was thankful to at least find this one! The whole thing was pink, and I decided to have green vines growing up the side of each wall. The front of it had a door, although you can't see it :( Sorry.
After Morgan's birthday, I had a baby shower cake to make for a friend of a friend. It turned out pretty well, and I got the idea from Wilton's website. Great source for cake ideas. It was very time consuming, but well worth it, for a first time carved cake!

Anywho... I had to take a few months off from the cake decorating because I had 2 surgeries over the summer. My mom came to help me with everything including the children after my second surgery, since that one was a major one. Her birthday had passed one week before. I desperately wanted to make a birthday cake for her to show off my abilities, but it was so hard. I ended up making her a small cake about one week after my surgery, and even that took me about three hours I think. Here was her cake:

A little messed up, I know, but hey, that's what percocet does to you after surgery. She at least appreciated the effort, LOL. Oh, and I totally forgot--- I did make a small round cake for a dear friend of mine back in February. She wanted a chocolate cake so badly, so, that's what I made. The whole thing was chocolate. It was double layer, and I saw a video on youtube, showing that you could use a textured paper towel, to pat on the design in the icing. So, that's what I did, and this is how it turned out, after piping on the icing following the pattern. Looks kind of weird, I know:

After taking a little time off to recouperate, I decided to make a friend of mine a welcome home baby cake. She did the entire nursery in "A very hungry caterpillar", so of course, that was the theme of this cake! And she loved it!!! I was so proud of how it turned out, especially all the detail I put into it!

And, the very last cake I made for 2010 was a chocolate cake for Thanksgiving. It was a quick cake, since I was so short on time, but just the same, I thought it turned out great!

Really wish I had a bigger picture of this one! Anyway, so thus far, these are all of my creations! I definitely think I have come a long way since the biginning of this year, that's for sure! Now that we begin 2011, I am going to attempt working with fondant. Haha, we'll see, and I'll be sure to post pictures, no matter how it turns out! Hope you enjoyed this post!

Aww, thanks Nini, you're so sweet. When is his birthday again? Last week of this month? Either call me with the details of what you want, or send me an email to lisassweettooth@aol.com, so I can start designing and preparing. The longer I have the better :) I have a ton of cakes coming up, starting with Trent's on the 13th =)
